Kensa does India
A spicy international video shoot
How far would you go for a customer? Our video team do on-location video shoots all over the UK and beyond, but this was a new record for us, clocking in at 5700 miles (give or take).
It’s not every day you get to experience such a vibrant culture, so between travelling across the country to multiple shoots in 3 different cities we captured some behind the scenes footage.
We can’t show you everything we filmed [top secret] but we can give you a glimpse of what we got up to.
Why India, anyway?
We had already filmed customer stories in the UK and France for this particular client to support a product launch, but it turned out the largest emerging market for this particular product is India… so that’s where we went. Consistency and quality are 2 challenges brands often face, especially when they’re multi-national.
We discussed involving a local agency, but this campaign was important. We knew that if we shot it ourselves, we could control the quality and ensure everything captured was consistent with the other material we had previously produced. We do everything in house because we’re control freaks. It’s a cliche that companies often outsource to India, so we decided to turn that on its head.
Making it work
Planning multi-day, multi-location, international video shoots can be extremely complicated. Adding in Visa applications, vaccinations, several flights and a language barrier made this particularly challenging. Getting to and from any shoot is often half the battle, so we’re always looking to maximise the footage we get while on location. That was doubly true for this project where the flights alone cost the same as a small car.
We worked with our client to crunch the numbers and managed to make it work; they also had a manufacturing presence in India, albeit in a different city, so we were able to make the stars align and support them on several projects while we were there. Ultimately, we captured material for multiple campaigns, including internal communications, facility tours, customer stories and case studies, saving the client time and money. In total, the trip took us to Birmingham, Dubai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore, before returning to the Idea Factory in Telford.
