Building a network of bi-lingual campus websites for a Chinese kindergarten chain
Never underestimate the power of word of mouth – our first international project came through a long chain of recommendations and resulted in us pitching for a major web redevelopment project in China of all places!
The main objective of the project was to create a series user friendly websites for a chain of high end bi-lingual kindergartens in Beijing. The bi-lingual part is something we are particularly happy about – thankfully the language barrier wasn’t an issue!
For the design of the websites we tried to create a style which was both child friendly and professional at the same time – primarily through the use of bright colours, large images and the text size across the site.
The campus websites themselves feature a wide range of custom features including image and video galleries, newsletter feeds, podcasts, maps and more – all available in both English and Chinese.
Aside from the complexity of creating a custom system which is mirrored in two languages we were also presented with several other unique challenges, not least of which was the vast differences in time zones.
The internet really does make the world a smaller place – by leveraging the power of Skype to conduct cost-free meetings online through frequent email communications we were able to effectively manage the project with no real issues.
In the end all it took was a few very early starts and late finishes with frequent trips to the local 24-7 supermarket for snacks – we are always happy to go the extra mile to make life easier for our clients (or an extra 5,070 miles in this case).
